CAI Volunteering Volunteers Needed Volunteer Interviewers
Dongba School Book Drive
In the spirit of Penn’s commitment to service and Ben Franklin’s birthday, we are looking for a few volunteers to visit children in the Beijing community at the Dongba School. This is the first event of its kind for the Penn Club of Beijing; so, let’s do all we can to support these great kids by donating books.
The Penn Club of Beijing is committed to helping to build a stronger community and supporting education efforts when possible.
On January 18, 2010, members of the Penn Club will visit the Dongba School in Beijing. The school is creating a library and wants 50 books (in Chinese) that are mostly science related for ages 7-14 (grades 1-9). Let’s try to collect 100 books for their new library. We have raised some money that should allow us to get the 50 requested. Let’s donate the other 50. Topics other than science that are appealing to this age group would be great.


About the Dongba Shiyan School

Guo Chunrong (principal) built Dongba Shiyan School in 2000. The school was moved to its current location(Dongba Xibeimen) in 2003.

Now there are about 1000 students in the school, from kindergarten to junior high school. Children are from about 21 provinces, but most are from Hebei, Henan, Anhui, Sichuang and Shandong. Most students live near the school.
